Day 4&5: Elephant Valley Lodge, Chobe Forest Reserve

Following breakfast the guests will be transferred by vehicle and boat to Elephant Valley Lodge for the following 2 nights.
Elephant Valley Lodge lies hidden in the Lesoma Valley in the Kasane Forest Resrve, nestled between Botswana and Zimbabwe, only a few kilometres outside Kasane. The lodge is set amongst massive camel-thorn trees and overlooks a large waterhole which attracts regular herds of elehpants offering twenty four hour game viewing.
Elephant Valley Lodge offers twenty traditional meru-style safari tents with comfortabe furnishings and each with private ensuite bathrooms. The public areas consist of a dining room and bar as well as a beautiful terrace with magnificent views overlooking the waterhole. There is a swimming pool for your enjoyment in the hotter months and spacious grassed grounds in which to relax.
The lodge includes two activities per day from the following options, game drives into the adjacent Chobe National Park, night drives in the Chobe Forest Reserve as well as boat cruises on the Chobe River. The high elephant population is staggering in the Chobe region and their regular visits to the waterhole offer an incredible sight – you barely need to leave the lodge to have a real Chobe elephant experience!
In addition to huge numbers of elephants, the Chobe area and National Park is home to a high buffalo and lion population which can provide dramatic game viewing. There is also an abundance of wild game and bird life.

Day 6,7&8: Private Matshwane Camping Safari in Moremi Game Reserve

Following breakfast the guests will be transferred to Kasane Airport for their onward flight to Moremi Game Reserve. Your guide will meet you at Xakanaxa Airstrip where you will begin your adventure in the Moremi Game Reserve. We begin our journey in the Moremi Game Reserve, spending the first three nights camping in an exclusive campsite. We explore the surrounding wilderness on game drives during the day.

Moremi Game Reserve is situated in the eastern corner of the Okavango Delta. Moremi is one of the most beautiful and varied reserves found on the African continent with huge concentrations of wildlife and incredible scenery.

Day 9 &10: Private Matshwane Camping Safari in the Okavango Delta / Chiefs Island

After breakfast we will depart from Xakanaxa by vehicle and drive to Maun where we will arrive around mid-day. The Okavango Expedition departs from Okavango River Lodge. Transport is provided to the Buffalo Fence either by expedition boat or by vehicle in months of low water levels. Here you get your first glimpse of the Okavango as we pass Boro village and head north through true delta waterways and secret lagoons. It takes approx 4-6 hrs by boat to reach the camp near Chiefs Island enjoying a picnic lunch en-route. You will spend the next 2 nights camping in a private wilderness campsite on Chiefs Island in Moremi Game Reserve.

After early morning breakfast the following day, you depart camp for a game walk accompanied by your professional guide. This area has good game species and is renowned as one of the prime areas in Botswana. You will return to camp and during the afternoon can enjoy another walk in the area or explore the Okavango Delta by boat. You will arrive back in camp in time for dinner after watching the African sunset over the Delta.

This trip offers you a true glimpse into the heart of the Okavango and is something very few people have the privileged of experiencing. Chiefs Island is legendary and was once reserved for the privileged use of the Batawana Chiefs. The island covers over a 1000sq kilometers situated right in the center of the Okavango Delta. It’s one of the few places in the delta where a huge land mass borders on permanent water .At night its common to hear the lions roaring from camp.

It is time to head back to Maun and following breakfast we will depart camp at 8am and arrive back in Maun 10-11am.

Points to ponder
Our boats use the latest technology 4 stroke outboards which are quieter and emit 96% less emissions than 2 strokes.
Whenever possible we try and use the mekoro services of the Xaxaba Community who are out of the mainstream tourism area and our activity adds much needed revenue to the Village.

Important:
Water levels permitting (9 months of the year) the boats leave from the Okavango River Lodge. When the water levels are to low guests will be transported by safari vehicles from Maun to the Buffalo Fence to meet the boats.

A TYPICAL DAY ON A PRIVATE SAFARI
The day starts with the rising of the sun. Your wake-up call will be between 5am and 6am - a gentle “koko” (knock knock in Setswana) at the entrance of your tent. A camp hand will be on hand to fill your wash-hand basin with steaming hot water and freshly made tea and coffee will be served around the campfire. Wake up to the warmth of the morning sun at the dawn of a new day.

A light breakfast will be served before the early morning game drive. You will enjoy tea, plunger coffee, juice, rusks, fruit, cereal, toast and jams. The best time of day to enjoy game viewing is in the early morning and late afternoon as most animals retreat to the shadows to rest during the heat of the day.

Having spent the morning exploring the surrounding wilderness in search of Botswana’s hidden treasures, you will return to camp for lunch under the shade of a Marula tree (subject to availability). Lunch consists of salads, freshly baked bread, cold meats, and pickles. Just as the animals retreat to escape the heat of mid-day, so will you. This is your time to enjoy reading, chatting, relaxing or taking a nap.

Later in the afternoon you will head out into the wilderness once more as the animals awake from their days slumber and gather at the watering holes to quench their unforgiving thirst. As the sun sets on the horizon, one can only marvel at the sheer splendour of an African sunset and with refreshments in hand, toast to the wonder of nature.

On your return to camp, you can enjoy a hot shower under the starry night sky and gather around the warmth of the campfire with your friends/ family to relive the day’s events and excitement. Enjoy a two-course dinner served with South African wines against the magical backdrop of the African night sky. Retreating to the comfort of your tent after enjoying a nightcap around the campfire, you can fall asleep to the calls of the African wild. Good night.

On moving days, the guide and the camp hand will pack down the camp, then travel to the next camp site and prepare the camp at the next location. When travelling between locations, the route is most commonly through the parks and reserves and is therefore an extension of your daily game drives. A picnic lunch can be enjoyed en-route.
